Initially car had lost all electrics, including power to doors. Consequently locked in car. Jump started and driven to charge up battery. After journey the engine would not stop running, even with ignition key removed. Lost power to all dials/blowers and radio. Engine deliberately stalled then hazard lights start flashing and will not turn off. Doors will not lock. Battery disconnected

It’s a fairly new battery and bizarrely the doors only opened from outside - had to phone to get OH to come and open door

No disrespect but you cant assume it's fine by " It’s a fairly new battery " .There a multitude of possible causes that can occur to run down a car battery . It may not be that , but it's the first thing I would test and eliminate or not .

Thanks for the advice but I’m more puzzled by why the engine kept running even after the key was out of the ignition

One reason it can happen is if the alternator is faulty and back feeding
