Mitsubishi Shogun hot and cold

Car: Mitsubishi Shogun
Variant: 3.2dci
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Spotted my temperature gauge at the top hot section on setting out from Cornwall to home. Checked the water it was almost empty. Topped up to normal level and started out again. The temp gauge went back to normal but went to hot again, stayed there a couple of minutes then went back to normal. It did this all the way home, it never used a drop of water all the way, so no leak. The top hose felt hot but the top of the radiator was not that hot. When the gauge was at hot the heater was cold, as it dropped the heater got hot again.

two problems need to be checked here.
1- you probably have a head gasqet problem...check the oil and see if there is presence of white colour on the stick or check where u pour the oil in the engine if the oil seemed like white.
if oil mixed with water then u probably have head gasqet problem and that will need to be changed. it cause over heating.

2- check for leak on hoses since you conirmed that there is no leaking on raditor.

good luck
