Mitsubishi Pajero gear box / driving train problem in flood conditions

Car: Mitsubishi Pajero
Variant: 3.6 Auto
Model Year: 2009
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Whenever I go hiking with my Pajero and it gets into any amount of water (approximately half way up the height of the wheels), the gear starts to malfunction. It just keeps slipping out of Drive and into Neutral....no matter what is done, even holding the auto gear stick in place, it won't stay in Drive, just slips back into Neutral and the car is not engaged to move. This stays the same way for upwards of 30mins which I assume is when something dries up.

Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this and how it can be sorted out?

Some 4x4s require plug,s to be fitted to the gear box for water condition,s on land rover,s maybe it,s the same for your vehicle, your handbook will tell you.
