Mitsubishi L200 stuck in 4wd

Whilst driving tonight briefly used 4wd, went to go back into 2wd and found the gear selector stick jammed. Tried reversing, driving 5 miles whilst trying to dis engage 4wd but still no luck - 4wd gear stick totally jammed won't move at all. Any ideas? Is this common?
