Erratic and random issue which usually happens when warm (after a half hour-ish drive)
The auto gearbox will not shift into 4th gear. This results in violent juddering rendering it practically undrivable. The short term solution is to restart the car and drive in manual up to 3rd gear (get me home fix). The issue then corrects itself after a while (obviously cools down)
The vehicle itself seems sound mechanically and there are no obvious indicators, audible or otherwise to suggest a mechanical fault with the gearbox, hence me thinking it is an electrical issue regarding the loom or solenoids etc.

You could try an auto trans oil change ( and filter if possible on that year / model ) but would be a good idea to get it diagnosed first for fault codes with suitable scanner that covers transmission

Thanks for reply
It has already had a transmission oil change and been up on the diagnostic scanner.
It is a tricky one as it has already been into a garage and had all that done. They were adamant that it was an electrical issue and the car was mechanically sound but didn't seem like they had the time to take the repair any further.
I'm looking into a new transmission loom (or repair) at the minute. Anybody advise if this is a good idea or a possible cause for the issue?

A lot of scanners if not dealership standard do not cover transmission interrogation

Have you had a diagnostic check carried out with a SUITABLE scanner ?
