Car: Mitsubishi L200
Variant: 2.5 td manual
Model Year: 2004
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hi I have a l200 warrior 54 plate had head gasket done a few months ago, now it is using loads of water and when you stop engine you can hear it bubbling in overflow tank, seems to be lots of air getting in the system because Iv run it with radiator cap of several times and it just bubbles up for ages. No water in oil or any thing like that. Any suggestions what it could be many thanks Jack.

Thermostat and water pump o.k ? Try bleeding cooling system .If not that get a pressures test to check for external leaks on cooling system .If still nothing shown get a block test to verify if head gasket repair done correctly and not still leaking / blown .

Thermostat was changed when head gasket was done , and I had the cooling system tested about a month ago they found a small leak but the problem has continued. Also forgot to mention since this has been happening the inside heater has been a bit hit n miss.

With the heater , that can be caused by air in cooling system another indicator of head gasket knacked .

Just say it is the head gasket again should the garages work be garenteed in this situation?

Was the head skimmed as well as pressure tested ? Is the water pump circulating the water o.k ? If it's the head gasket gone again I would be very interested in how they would be able to deny a warranty claim . Also the fact that there was a leak in cooling system and they had to fix that also would not help their case . Could also checj the radiator is not partially blocked .

You could do a chemical check on the coolant ,which tells you if co gasses are present any good garage should be able to do this for you,but got to admit it does sound like the gaskets faulty or your head is faulty.

As already suggested re. block test which contains a liquid chemical that reacts to hydrocarbons and changes colour if present , you can buy a kit for £30 or less if you wish to do the test yourself or it's a small garage that doesn't have one .
