Mitsubishi L200 engine light frequently stays on preventing engine from starting

Car: Mitsubishi L200
Variant: 2.5 Diesel 4Life
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
The engine warning light regularly stays on and as a result will not allow the car to start. We have to turn off the ignition and turn back on again until the light does go out. This could be once or take an hour. When the ignition is switched off you have to wait until you hear a click from the ECU before switching back on again. Once started the engine runs fine. Any ideas?

ECU's dont click, the relays that power them and power the pump, they click.
Intermitant relay short circuit, main dealer or auto spark time.
