Mitsubishi FTO dying after 5 min's

Car: Mitsubishi FTO
Variant: mivec gpx auto
Model Year: 1996
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have a problem with my FTO. At first the car would start normally, run for 5-10 mins and then engine would then stall. The car would stall while we were driving. It would not restart immediately. After about 5-10 mins it would restart and drive perfectly for an unlimited time.

We had is serviced and changed the fuel filter. The car worked ok for about a week and then the problem returned. This time the engine light would come on before the car stalled. The mechanic tested the code and said it was the booster control, however we do not have a turbo. He reset the computer and cleaned the throttle body and the car was fine for a few days, but then the problem returned. The problem was sporadic. Some days it would run fine, other times it would stall and we would have to wait 5-10 mins before it would start properly.

This time we had an electrician look at the car. He said that our alternator was overcharging and we had it replaced. The car worked for one day and now the problem has returned and is even worse. It will start and stall straight away. It will do the same after several attempts. It will then start normally, drive for about 5 minutes and then stall again. It will not restart until after another 5 or 10 minutes.

Today we disconnected the battery to reset the computer. After reconnecting the battery the car started perfectly. We left it to idle for 5 minutes, as instructed by the mechanic. but it stalled after only a few minutes. Once again it wouldn't restart straight away.

Please help??

I reckon the problem is your stepper motor (common stalling/idling fault), located on the intake body. It is best to get it replaced and im sure your FTO will run fine after that. They aren't too expensive either!
Hope it works!

Mate if u havent had it check yet take your car to an auto electrician and tell them to replace the "MAP Sensor". Or if u can get the sensor urself it is and easy install .... just take old out put new in and it is that easy.
I had the same problem with my car for about a year. the only way i got it fixed was by giving my car the the guy and telling him to drive it to and from work..... it cut out on him while driving and was able to find the problem.
I have not had the same issue with my car since.
I feel your pain mate coz it cost me thousands of $$ on things that didnt fix anything.
Hope this works for you.
