Mitsubishi Colt central display and instrument panel not readable in daylight

The display and panel are pretty much blank during the day but driving into a multi-storey carpark produces excellent visibility of the dials.
How can this be resolved?

Doesn't have a dimmer switch ? Possibly similar to this ?
