Mercedes Benz E Class dash board dials

On starting my Mercedes E200 all the dash board dials indicate normal operations, on driving all dash board dials indicate normal but as soon as I apply the breaks to slow down the ramp meter, fuel meter and the oil meters all go down to zero and stay this way until I switch off and restart my car. What is the fault

Given that the only circuit to be energised Is the brake light bulbs,
and the fact that over the years I've come across just about every type of bulb forced into service the first thing I'd do is check that every brake light bulb is the correct type and fitted correctly.

Changed all the light blubs, no change, problem still persists. Help.
