Mercedes Benz CL boot lid will not unlock with key tab

Boot Lid will only open with emergency key. Licence plate lights only stay on when boot lid is open,

Check if covered by a fuse . Remember some Mercs had similar troubles and it was caused by damaged wiring inside at boot hinges but whether that relates to your car I cannot say , but maybe worth a look.

Does sound like wiring if the lights are only working with boot open as previously suggested .
