Mercedes Benz C Class smell from air vents

Car: Mercedes Benz C Class
Variant: c180 auto
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Leaks & Noises
My 1999 C180 has an acrid smell which seems to be from the air vents, the car has had the air con sanitised twice and had the coolant system tested with no leaks found.
It has been in the Mercedes service/repair 3 times now for investigations, they changed the pollen filter and windscreen washer fluid but smells still there. T%he smell is also coming out of the diagnostic box when the fan blower is running (box has also been checked by Mercedes and no fault or overheating found)

any ideas?

Could it be alternator overcharging causing fumes from battery ? though you would expect other symptoms if this was happening .

check your battery connections and check wiring for high resistance or shorts,is there anything electrical wise that is`nt working properly,if so check the affected circuit
