Land Rover Freelander starting problems

Car: Land Rover Freelander
Variant: Adventurer TD
Model Year: 2006
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
My Freelander starting being a pain about starting from cold. Evenutally it would fire up with clouds of blue smoke from the exhaust. Eventually it gave up the ghost and went into the garage. The fault was traced to the HP Diesel pump and this was replaced. Worked okay for a few days although was still lumpy on start up. It has given up the ghost again and will only start if towed. Our poor mechanic is at his wits end, the computer reader shows nothing amiss, he has checked the electrics, the pumps, the computer - you name it he has checked it and it still refuses to start. A local main dealer has one in with the same fault and has had it 8 months without resolve. We need this vehicle as we work for the Wolf Trust and this is vital to us. Does anyone have any ideas for our mechanic who is the local oracle on 4 x 4's but even he is stumped.

Very surprised a main dealer has had a car for 8 months and not solved problem . If it was me I would have had specialists from factory involved or shipped car to them for examination .

We have now found out what the problem was the HP Diesel pump that had been replaced by a factory part and appeared to be working was in fact faulty all the time but this weas not showing on the technical read out. Virtually everthing was replaced on this vehicle from the loom to you name it. Questions had been asked of the manufacturer but they were no help and suggested a new engine. I don't think so with only 40000 miles on the clock! Anyway it just goes to prove that not all brand new factory warrantied parts are in full working order. It took our mechanic £2500 to find this out and needless to say teeth will be extracted from Landrover until they pay up!
