I have the engine management light on and " reduced performance indication " I was told the car needs DPF regeneration so I did 2 motorway runs of around 60 miles each time but the fault won't clear.

Are you sure it's the DPF , was a diagnostic scan carried out and showed that specific code ? Have you tried changing fuel filter ?

Hi thank you for your reply. I called out an RAC mechanic and he did a diagnostic test and seemed to think it was a DPF problem. He did not show me the results on he's tablet. For a long time I have only been making short journeys so he suggested do a motorway drive to regenerate the system. So I did 2 x 40 / 50 mile round trip on the M20 but it did not clear. Other than that I have not done any other checks. Mainly because I don't know what to look for.

Short stop / start journeys are really bad for your car . What he suggested is known as a " Ferrari tune up ) a blast down the motorway that only sometimes works with the fault he suggested but often not .Not much confidence in the RAC mechanic if he only
" thought "that might be the fault , there would be a definitive code showing if scanned with the right equipment for your car , If the fuel filter is needing changed ( possibly water in filter , dirty diesel )that may be one of many possible causes . You need to get it scanned with proper diagnostics to retrieve stored fault codes or , try changing , getting the fuel filter changed first and see if that cures the fault .

Thank you whittingehame for your help. I think I mite just get it booked in for a proper diagnostic check. I'll just need to find someone in Kent that's a reliable and trusted mechanic that really knows about jaguar. I have thought of going to a jaguar dealer but there asking around £120.00 just for a diagnostic. Very expensive. But thank you again for your advice.Paul

A "a reliable and trusted mechanic " can be like finding hens teeth and are often worth their weight in gold . If you can find a good independent Jag specialist it would be ideal . To be fair the £120 charge for diagnostic scan is more or less the norm with dealers . Hope it is something relatively minor like the fuel filter , fingers crossed .
