Jaguar X-Type door light on dash on when all doors are closed

Cannot lock car as car is convinced a door is open

It's usually caused by a door ajar switch which is integral to the lock actuator , door lock assembly sticking , Sometimes you can be lucky if you can get in to spray the likes of WD40 or silicone spray preferably on lock assembly , giving a good spray and then operating a good few times but may need removing door trim to be successful . Another possible cause can be the wiring from A pillar into door being damaged .

If you had access to a proper scanner and checked live data when fault was there it would usually show what one , otherwise try spraying lock assembly as is and hope for the best . Just a thought , does interior light come on as well ? if not try opening and shutting boot a few times and also check the boot lock and wiring . I once fixed a sticking door lock micro switch by hitting panel at lock hard a few times with the heel of my hand . Only a temp measure but told me where the fault lay till fixed properly

Yes unfortunately the interior light does come on, had a situation recently in a downpour when the door light was going off and on intermittently, it suggests to me that water was making a contact perhaps.

Must be related , but where ? To add to " Another possible cause can be the wiring from A pillar into door being damaged . " also add the wiring from centre pillar , Sometimes if you move the wiring cover / sheath if wiring damaged it can show on dash warning / light going on on and off
