Hi There are several reasons for Black smoke and one by one they should be eliminated till it stops- My 2004 and now my 2007 Limited have never suffered from anything at all (touch wood).
1. Check fuel pressure-Low pressure is one cause
2. High pressure pump faulty (possibility as have heard of this one and it did lead to total injector and engine failing in crete)
3.Faulty injector ie blow by seat leaking or wiring harness faulty.
4.Air intake restricted- check your air filters not blocked.
5.Turbo wastegate problems (only heard of 1 fail in since 2004 when they came out)
6.Cam Crank sensor failure
7.EGR problems.
Look I hope some of this helps-dont be put off by the list these are just things that do cause diesels to spew out black smoke and of course its important to sort it asap. Is your vehicle still within warranty? It has to go back to the Hyundai Dealer and if he cannot do it he always has Hyundai Technicians to fall back on for the correct answer.
Cheers
