Hyundai Tucson fuel consumption

Car: Hyundai Tucson
Variant: CRTD CDX Auto
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
My problem is that the car is very heavy on fuel no matter how carefull I drive.
I'm lucky if I get an average of 25mpg.
The car has only done 14000 miles and serviced at regular intervals.
Any ideas?

That is very low milage for a car of that age, take it this is only used on short trips, shops and things. It is quite possible that because of this there will be an excessive amount of carbon build up in the egr valve preventing it from closing off properly and also in the exhaust system, before going to spend a fortune on diagnostics i would put a fuel treatment in the tank with a good amount of fuel and give it a good thrashing up the motorway then have all the filters and the oil changed. If that does not help then you obviousley have a component fault like the egr valve, mass air flow sensor, turbo fault, low fuel pressure etc
