Have to charge the battery on my 2022 Hyundai i20 n-line every 4/5 days for the stop/start to work and the sailing mode to work , dealer told me to do more miles than i do now, my last i20 without all the electronic gubbins lasted 6 years without having to charge the battery. I dont think my next new car will be Hyundai

Should last longer than that if FULLY charged . Have they checked for a possible battery drain ?

its been in 3 times now all they do is update the software , battery is good , the battery doesnt go flat , it seems when it drops below 80% it shuts various things down , its a mild hybrid so its shuts down the sailing mode also the stop/start

That's normal on a lot of cars when battery drops to certain level . Make sure you have the battery FULLY charged then check this . I'm on a large American forum and we had similar faults with various makes , dealership unable to solve . It turned out the car key / remote was left in the house near to and in range of the cars . By doing so it was still transmitting to car and not letting all systems fully shut down as they should , thereby running the battery down . Might / might not apply to you

Thanks for your reply but i dought its not what you said because I always when in the house keep the remote in one of those pouch type things that stops the signal escaping because this is keyless entry hopefully it stops anyone trying to steal it, but i will try your surgestion and keep the key futher away. I bought this car new in june 2022 and in November it would not start , The AA came out and told me the battery was flat , they gave it a 10 minute charge and it started they put a meter on the battery when it was running and it was reading 14.5 volts and told me all was good , so it took from June to November to run down flat , as I say Hyundai have had it 3 times and cant find any fults with it , I have found out that it doesnt have an altenator it has a generator and its run by the ecu and the ecu tells it when to charge , I have been told to keep the headlights on to tell it to charge , but the end of the day Hyundai havent got a clue whats wrong with it O bye the way Im not the only one having this problem theres loads of owners having the same trouble

If you have a pouch it wont be what I suggested . An alternator and generator are the same thing , different names .As for " I have been told to keep the headlights on to tell it to charge " is rubbish and not needed for charging the battery

Im afraid your wrong there, yes cars have alternators (ac) that produce alternating current which is converted to direct current (dc) this car is fitted with a generator which the current is generated in direct current (dc) it also acts like a starter motor to start the car theres no starter motor or starter ring on this, it has a drive belt to start it so its completely silent when its starts

I had the same issue with my brand new 2023 i20.
Dealers were useless blamed me for not driving it enough and suggested I use a battery charger periodically. I told them if I had wanted to plug my car in I would have bought an EV. I took the car to a battery speciaist and they fitted a new Exide battery which they said was at least 2 quality grades higher than the Turkish built battery supplied with the car. Cost me £117 but its completely transformed the car. Stop start is working all the time
even after after 2 weeks of short journeys. Hyundai need to own up to this issue and provide upgraded relacement batteries. I was within a whisker of sending the car back as not fit for purpose. I will be claiming for the cost of new battery needed. A really good car totally let down by penny pinching on the battery.

can you tell me what Exide battery they fitted for you name amp hour etc the one on my car is only 45 amp hour and not a stop/start battery Turkish of course, I see the latest i20 has a much bigger battery 55 amp hour. Also they have stopped making it in mild hybrid , I asked a sales person why and they told me it was nothing but trouble and also now the goverment have extend the time limit on petrol engines to 2035 theres no need for mild hybrid, so its just a straight 1.00ltr turbo petrol engine.

Doesn't need to be an Exide battery , any make with the correct spec for your car with the stop / start will do . Most fast fit , battery suppliers will advise and usually offer an upgrade if needed
