Honda Civic engine dying

Car: Honda Civic
Variant: coupe vtec 1.6
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
This is a problem with my husband's car. Car power dies usually pretty soon after starting and it will start juddering and cut out if you don't put the clutch down. If you turn the car off and restart it, the problem goes. He's checked the air filter and there's no problem with that. It only ever does this once within a journey and normally within the first 5 mins of a journey. Having said that, we live in a rural location and don't do much town driving - he is normally driving at 60mph within 5 mins of leaving the house. Any help much appreciated.

Could be engine coolant temp sensor . This sends info to ECU re. amount of fuel needed , i.e more fuel when engine cold (like old choke on cars) and then leans out fuel as engine warms up .Could also check plugs and ignition coils / wiring .If not that , hard to diagnose without getting a scan carried out .Hope tis helps .

We still haven't had this fixed as have had to save the pennies after fixing my car first.

His engine warning light is on constantly. Also, we have noticed that when you fill up the petrol tank to the maximum, it shows as full and creeps down gradually as you use up fuel until about 3 quarters of a tank. From 3 quarters of a tank to empty, it falls away sharply and so you know that when it's showing that you have 3 quarters of a tank of petrol, you need to refill sharpish. Could this be connected with the earlier solution that you posted?

Finally got this car to the garage today. The Honda garage scanned it and said it needs a S102 sensor. They have quoted £325.23 fitted. My questions are;

What does this sensor do?
Would an independent garage be able to do this repair?
Does the cost estimate sound accurate?

Any help much appreciated.
