Ford Mondeo revs not going above 3000

i ran out of diesel and the car wouldnt let me go above 3000 revs. i put diesel i and it will run ok for a minute or so and then not go above 3000 revs again. can anyone help?

these engines are very hard to bleed it may still have air in the system also are there any warning lamps on ?
