Ford Mondeo central locking

Car: Ford Mondeo
Variant: 1.8 lx
Model Year: 1997
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have just bought a 1997 mondeo 1.8 lx
As I have no manual so Im finding how things work by trial and error.
The ignition key has to be used manually to open and lock the doors. It has two batteries in it which ive changed but still no response. Is the key useless or can it be repaired

make sure your car is fitted with remote central locking. if it is then you need a new sender. either the key replaced or a remote box put on your keyring tuned to your cars signal code. fords can do this, or many car radio shops seem to be able to do that type of thing now.
