Ford Mondeo auto wipers

Car: Ford Mondeo
Variant: 2.0TDCI Ghia
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Hi all, First post here so please be gentle! I drive a 2005 Mondeo Ghia with auto lights/wipers. Last week (whilst driving home in the dark and rain) my lights and wipers died on me. Fortunatly I had a spare fuse with me so I changed it and lights came back - they now work perfectly. However, auto wipers haven't worked since. The list of problems - Wash wipe button washes but no wipe; pressing the stalk down for a single wipe starts the wipe but it stops as soon as I let go of the stalk (no return to park position - they stop wherever); putting the stalk up 1 position does absolutely nothing; but positions 2&3 (permanant wipe / two speeds) both work fine. As I said I have changed the fuse, the relay and replaced the GEM but to no avail. The rear wiper works fine as does rear wash wipe. Any help you could give would be much appreciated as it is nearly MOT time and my local garage didn't have a clue! Many Thanks

if your local garage wont play ball, its cos they probably dont have an auto electrician, or he knows how tricky it can be to trace these type of problems.

so you have done the obvious, so whats left? wiring..........you dont want to go there, without the right test equipment, so find another garage,,,,, or if it was my car, i would start with changing the wiper opperating arm. if you go down this road, when you fit the new arm, check the connection blocks for signs of heat, this usaly shows as a black colour, if its there clean away the carbon, before fitting the new unit, and test before putting everything back.

i hope this helps you. good luck
