I'd suspect a fuel problem so start with a new fuel filter.

Start with simple things first, change spark/glowplugs, air and/or fuel filter,
It seems fuel related in my opinion, I wonder if it could be your fuel pump ?
When you turn your key in the ignition have a listen for a whirring type noise either inside your car or underneath the car, if you hear no noise the problem is quite possibly that your car fuel pump needs looking at

i have fuel leaking around the injectors & when cranking over it drains the battery

You will need to address the fuel leak problem first as this could course air to be drawn into the system.
