Ford Mondeo juddering and pumping white smoke

Variant: 2.0 tdi

at 2000 revs in 4th and 5th gear the car pumps outwhite smoke and starts to judder. been in garage numorous times and they cant find the problem. read it could be that the EGR needs cleaning so done that ( it needed doing aswell) but the problem still occuring. the car runs fine in low gears just running about local. its an old car so dont want start spending a fortune on it so any ideas would be helpful and greatful. cheers

White Smoke

Normally means that the fuel injected into the cylinder is not burning correctly. The smoke will burn your eyes.
•Engine/pump timing out
•Fuel starvation to the pump causing the pumps timing not to operate correctly
•Low engine compression
•Water/petrol in the fuel
Also check coolant level in case smoke is caused by faulty head gasket and not fuel related .
