Ford Mondeo chugging / poor starting

Car: Ford Mondeo
Variant: 1.8
Model Year: 1993
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have an ongoing problem of my car chugging for most of the time it's running and often feeling like it's not got all of it's power. Occassionally it appears to clear itself and has a noticeable spurt of power without any additional use of accelerator. It's also difficult to start requiring a slight depression of the accelerator to get it going or it won't start. I've tried redex type treatments in the fuel but this doesn't appear to have much effect. This problem doesn't disappear when the engines warm. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with an old Cavalier, I found that cleaning the distributor helped. Its more likely to be an ignition (HT leads/spark plugs/distibutor) rather than the fuel.

Hope ths helps
