Ford Mondeo knocking

when i drive at 20 to 30 mph there is is a heavy knocking sound coming from the engine if i accelarate the noise goes, when the engine is ticking over it sounds ok, please can sombody help.
its a 55 plate 2.0 tdci mondeo auto with 53000 genuine miles on the clock.

Could check crankshaft pulley .

it could be a loose torque convertor

where it bolts to flywheel i should have said

Have you checked your big end bearings?
knocking at low speed, then dissapearing at higher speed, could mean your big end bearings have gone.
