Ford Mondeo auto transmission in emergency running mode

Car: Ford Mondeo
Variant: 2.0 tdci durashift 5-tronic Auto
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
I've had the Mondy for 6 years and am generally happy with it. We recently had a lot of flooding around here (SE Cornwall) and since then (coincidence?) the gearbox has been operating in Emergency Running Mode.
I suspected that water had got somewhere that it shouldn't have. I took it to an automatic transmission specialist. He said it's an electrical problem. I took it to a car electrics technician and he spent 2 hours doing diagnostics and trying to find water. The upshot of this is that the fault still exists and is described by the diagnostics as a lack of communication. This car electrics guy was honest and said he had never worked on this type of gearbox electronics before and I am reluctant to spend more money for him to learn on the job. I have not been to the local Ford agent because they tend to have a poor reputation for anything very technical.

Has anybody got any idea what my next move should be? Anybody had a similar problem of water getting into the electronics? Anybody know a reliable electronics man near here with experience of duratronic 5 speed gearbox?

No codes shown on diagnostic ?

Ford will be able to get a transmission fault code from the vehicle which could give a clue ,it maybe a sensor, but it,s not a complex system and any one can dry out and clean electrical multiplugs and connections.

Whereabouts am I likely to find the relevant multiplugs - top, bottom, front or rear of the gearbox. I had a quick look between rain showers today and couldn't see anything that looked like a multuplug. Is it hidden behind or underneath something?
