Ford Mondeo rattling engine...or is it ?

Car: Ford Mondeo
Variant: 1.8 Duratec LX
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When I bought my Black Mondeo 1'8 LX petrol a month ago it sounded sweet as a nut. But within hours of getting it home the engine started to tick slightly. Within a week the engine was quite noisy top end rattle. It had had a new oil change before I bought it but I changed it again with 5w30 Fully Synthetic.
The car is idling roughly as well but the rattling is my main concern. If I put a screw driver to my ear and onto the cam cover there is no noise but if I put it down onto the intake manifold the clicking/rattle is very bad.
I've been told it may be loose flaps in the intake but the noise goes at 3,000 rpm. It's been sat on the drive now since I've bought it and its really stressing me out now.
Anyone got any ideas ?

You do not mention mileage ,you could try a thicker oil as if there's wear then oil may be too thin ,also consider some friction inhibitor such as slick 50 when you do the oil change .If this does not fix the issue after some running in then the issue may be more in depth ,but the fact the noise disappears is a good thing,Have you a mechanic mate that can offer an opinion ,as noise.s are often open to interpretation.

Have new oil but it made no difference at all. Will try some slick50 or alike. But was wondering if the oil is now a bit thin (5w30) on an engine that's done 144,000 miles.
Maybe try a thicker grade oil...its just its all costing a fortune at a difficult time of year for me.
