Ford Mondeo car stops after about 3 miles

car will go for about 3 miles and then starts to lose power accompanied by grey smoke from it's exhaust, Mechanics have fitted new turbo and epg valve but problem still the same. Car will restart after rest and will go again for a short while.

not entirely sure but i have heard of a similar fault and it was down to the cat. being blocked.

A mechanic is looking at the car and I have read of similar problems being caused by the lift pump. Does this sound likely.
If it is a blocked cat will this be expensive?

could be pump so why not try a good injector cleaner , cat would have to be changed
