Ford Mondeo constant squeeky/screechy noise

Car: Ford Mondeo
Variant: 1.8
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
It started squeeking now again about a month ago when I was driving at low speeds (1st, 2nd, 3rd gear) but then seemed to go away. Now it's back and I've heard the screechy noise whilst going 70 on the motorway and tonight it was a constant screech all the way home. It seems to disapear as soon as I touch the brake pedal. The noise level varies but doesn't seem related to the speed I am doing. It doesn't seem to be affecting the performance of the car at all - but there's obviously a problem somewhere.

Any help on what this could be would be much appriciated.

Thanks

Hi mate, It sounds to me like you may have something stuck in between the brake pads and brake disc as this would cause the symtoms you mentioned. You could try getting a jet washer in on the calipers and give them a proper wash and see if that helps. Please make sure that you drive carefully after you have done this as the brakes will take a while to get rid of excess water. Hope this helps.

Come into work this morning - no screechy sound at all. It seems to only happen when it's raining whilst I'm driving or possibly when it's cold/windy. Yesterday when I heard it constantly all the way home it was hammering down and very windy.

Any solution to why I only hear it in certain conditions?

Hi

From the description of the noise my thoughts would be with a slipping poly V belt, as they get old the
surface coating on the rubber wears off and they can squeal very badly when they are damp, like first thing in the morning.

Is this a problem that needs to be sorted urgently then?

if noise clears or changes when brake applied its brake pad to disc noise a problem on all sorts of cars since aspesdos removed from pads.suggest remove pads chamfer edges with small file then paint pads with holts pad silencer or just replace pads. this noise usually occurs if driver is light on pedel.
Or pads have small piece of soft metal attached to 1 or 2 pads, it scrapes on disc to warn driver pads are getting low cheaper version of wire indicators.
