The ending seems to misfire causing the car to lurch a bit or else it feels like it is driving into a headwind ( against resistance) both only last a second or two here and there, no pattern as to gear or revs as far as I can see. Air and fuel filter changed but no difference. As soon as I get ‘ service engine now’ alert the problem stops but as this alert clears when the engine is off the problem can restart on the next journey. Also plugging the computer in at the garage seems to reset the issue and it tends to be ok for about a week after then starts again. Any ideas appreciated.

Rather than resetting you need it scanned with suitable scanner for fault codes to see what is causing the misfire and warning light . then rectify as needed . Otherwise will just continue

Fault codes have consistently showed air filter and fuel filter, both of which have been replaced.

Is this a Ford dealership checking the codes and scanning ?

No, local garage.

Thought as much . A diagnostic scanner will not display fault codes for air filters etc . Probably their scanner is just a universal / generic unit that can not cover all modules / systems that Forscan or any other official Ford software can check .
