Ford KA hig revs when stopped and power loss and kangarooing

Car: Ford KA
Variant: X Reg
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi, please help!! My car has been revving really highly when I slow down (from any speed) and when I'm stopped. Eg. at traffic lights the revs will stay high even if the car has been taken out of gear and foot is not on the accelerator. It has also started losing power when I'm driving, it'll just randomly drop power with a jerk and slow down, then it'll suddenly come back again. There's no pattern with changing gears or anything. It's also struggling to get up speed, the last time I drove it I couldn't get to 60mph. I've not driven it since as it feels as though it could die at any point and therefore not safe! There's a new air filter in there, all liquids are topped up, had spark plugs and leads winter last year. Have been advised by a friend it could be the air mass filter???? Any thoughts would really be appreciated! Thank you

You dont say what engine in car .Take it when your friend mentions " the air mass filter " which doesn't exist , he may be referring to Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) ? You could try cleaning the MAF and check / clean plugs that were replaced last year . Check and clean idle control valve and throttle body for revving fault .If still having trouble check engine compressions and coil pack .

Thank you, yes thats what he said, my mistake! Its a 1.3 petrol engine? I'll give that a go, thank you for your help

If the air flow meter is unplugged check and if it still revs check the throttle electrics, that's if it 1.3 injection.

Hi, I have the same problem with the engine Revving whilst slowing down or at a complete stop! Will i be able to fix this myself or will it be easier to take this to a garage?
