Ford KA engine overheat light, and engine warning light and car shudders

Car: Ford KA
Variant: 1.3 3 Door
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
The thermostat warning light came on when driving. I stopped and filled the car up with more coolant, waited 20 minutes and carried on. The car drove fine for 20 miles only for the engine warning light to come on and the car start shuddering as if it was going to stall.

I thought it might be a head gasket, but the oil still seems free of coolant/anything else.

Any ideas?!

Could try getting pressure test on the block to rule out head gasket!.

If you are still getting temp warning light coming on and losing water , see if you can see where the water loss is coming from .If you cant see , get a pressure test on cooling system which will show any external leaks like water pump etc .If still not right get a "sniff" test / block test that will check and show up any head or gasket faults . It all depends on where a head gasket goes if it mixes with oil or not .Might be something simple like water pump .
