Ford KA engine over revving

Car: Ford KA
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
The engine consistently over revs when driving and when coming to a stop it continues to over rev for several seconds before it dies away to normal slow running speed. This problem is now getting worse as the over revving is quite severe.

You dont say what engine in car . Could check / clean idle control valve and throttle body if applicable to your engine .

It has 1300cc fuel injection. The engine over revs when the car is moving even if rolling down hill, not in gear, with no acceleration; it will start to over rev until the brakes are applied then slowly die away to tick over.
