Ford KA smoking

Car: Ford KA
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Car started up fine but as i went to drive off the kerb whilst turning the steering wheel there was a loud grinding struggling noise that seemed to come from the front passenger wheel. Once turned the steering wheel back the sound disappeared although the car seemed to be struggling a little & then it wasn't long before i could see greyish smoke through the mirror and smell burning, any ideas??

Could be your brake pad ceased, the smoke could be coming from your disc, friction,

dear mazza
as tonTH said the burning was more than likely your friction pads. as to what caused them to burn, two possible causes. first, partially siezed brake caliper. second, wheel bearings breaking up ( which would explain the noise you heard, with steering on lock )this also makes the brake disc run out of true, causing more friction on brake pads, hence burning smell. hope this helps, let me know how you get on. best of luck. regards dj dave.

Hi DJ Dave

The problem turned out to be the spring going & digging into the tyre as the wheel went round, hence smoke etc. Had to get it towed to nearest garage & new spring fitted & new tyre, wouldn't have got very far before it exploded!!
