Ford KA steering heavy

Car: Ford KA
Variant: 1.3 Hatch
Model Year: 2004
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Hello,

My KA has been making a loud wirring noise for weeks and when i turn the sterring wheel right when driving the car makesa noise like air escaping ufor a while. Anyway, the garage checked and changed the fan belt for me as it was knackered. The noise is still there and now the steering has gone heavy especially when i turn right. It intermitently changes between heavy and vey leight on the steering almost like it is not connected to anything. Anyway, it has been back in hthe garage and they have checked and told me its safe to drive but they think it maybe a suspension problem. I recently had the left arm and sbushes changed. Do you think its a simple problem that it may just be the right arm now needs changing or something more serious.

Thanks.
PS the power steering has never been brilliant and it feel now like my car is 20 years old and the steering is not there. Its not as if its totally gone where i need 3 arms and all my strength to turn the wheel.

Hi, the fact that you have noticed a change in the steering tells me that something is not right. Try and find another garage to get it checked out. Don`t take any chances.

The wirring noise is probably the power steering pump, this could be contributing to your steering feeling stiff and slack, as mentioned above take it to another recommended garage for a second oppinion
