Ford KA stalls when turning ignition

Car: Ford KA
Variant: 1.3
Model Year: 1998
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi,

I've got a 1998 V Reg Ford KA, which has recently developed a problem starting the engine. It only happens when it's cold though.
When I turn the key in the ignition the engine turns over, and catches for about 30 seconds then stalls.
The only way it will start is if I keep my foot on the accelerator while turning the key in the ignition. The engine will then splutter a bit, but then it'll start and be fine to drive!

Has anyone got any clues on what this could be and how to fix it?!

Thanks :o)

Hi,

Thank you for that, have cleaned it this weekend, and replaced the spark plugs for good measure and it seems to have fixed the problem!

Fingers crossed!
