Ford KA speedo not working

I have a 2002 KA, the speedo isn't working and the EML was on. I read the code and it said no signal from speed sensor.
I have replaced this (over £110), no speedo still. I the stripped the cluster out and checked the cable and it is fine.
There apears to be no drive to the cable when the car is moving, is this a gear in the gearbox that drives this? and is this replacable?
