Ford Galaxy powershift clutch or gearbox

Car: Ford Galaxy
Variant: 2.0 tdi
Model Year: 2013
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
hi my galaxy developed a slight shudder when turning on to a steep hill was advised by ford to get a gear oil and filter change so took it to local garage to get done the next day my car was stinking of oil fumes so took it back he took undertray off and it was soaked in oil didnt know where leak was coming from so said run it a few days see what its like well a did and there was still oil leaking from somewhere then got warning saying transmission limeted function and wouldnt move in reverse so went to different garage and they said oil leak was coming from inside bell housing and sorted that they also said they had to drain gear oil as it was overfilled so drained it to max and road tested it and said it was fine when i picked it up a drove approx 1 mile and warning light came on again and it was just not finding gears and roaring a bit so not really sure if its the auto clutch or gearbox thats the problem could it be possible if you could price both just to see if it worth going ahead and getting fixed a would oviously need to try somehow to get it transported up there as i live in scottish borders and there is no clutch or gear box specialists near here thanks your help in this matter would be grateful

Dont know where to really start . Surprised at Ford advice and not recommending it was brought in for checking first . You should have taken the car into a Ford garage or some other garage that was equipped for checking and carrying out a diagnostic scan on the transmission .They would then advise on cost and repairs needed . From what you say , your local garage really messed things up and may have possibly caused more damage , especially with over filling . It would seem neither your garages have scanned for fault codes which must be done , rather than guessing and wasting time and money . Until they know the fault , unable for any one to estimate cost You really have to be careful and get it checked out by a reputable , qualified transmission garage or Ford Dealership or you could get ripped off . Be careful who you deal with as most dealerships are closed due to Coronavirus .

If the fault light came on there should usually be a stored fault code that can be retrieved . There may also be software updates or TSB s that non Ford garages do not have access to . There have been so many problems with Ford powershift trans on various models that smaller garages cannot resolve .It could be an internal fault or an external fault or both , but will be a money pit if not properly diagnosed .
