Ford Fusion car cuts out whilst moving

Car: Ford Fusion
Variant: 1.6 Automatic
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have two 1.6 Automatic Ford Fusions, both with 05 number plates. One has done a lot of mileage (around 120,000), the other has done less than 20,000 miles.

Both have an occasional tendency to cut out completely whilst moving. This can occur whilst the car is moving quite fast (approx 20 mph on one occasion). It is possible that it happens when I take my foot off the accelerator.

I have taken both to the local garage but they cant find the problem.

It frightens me because it could happen on a motorway. I just wondered if anybody had any ideas?

Thank you
