Ford Focus steering feels to be sticking

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.6 tdci LX
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Steering feels very positivly centralised & reluctant to gentle steering, ie, changing lanes. When using just finger pressure, I can feel the steering wheel resist & then suddenly give way. Got a fright this morning cos I thought the steering had locked. Seems to be worst 1st thing in the morning when cold & also when accelerating. Had a shock /absr done few days ago & tracking, toe in checked & adjusted but noticed this problem when I got the car about 3 weeks ago. Plse help as I want to try what I can before paying out to the garage. Thanks.
