Ford Focus rusting sump - leaking oil

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.8 Ghia Petrol Manual
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I have been servicing a Ford Focus 1.8 Ghia 03 reg with 60k on the clock today.

I was surprised to see the state of the sump (see pic) as you can see it is rusting quite badly.

Having just changed the oil I can see it is leaking the odd drip from the side of the sump.

Three questions:

1. Is this rusting likely to cause a major oil leak in the future?

2. Is changing the sump on one of these major surgery? (it looks fairly easy)

3. Is there any sort of filler/ sealant you can use to save the old sump? (Ford have just quoted £230 plus VAT)

Cheers

Quite common on the Focus,Fiesta , Ka etc with the steel/ tin sumps , later changed to alloy .Seen many successfully fibre glassed if not wanting to change , but depends how bad .You've normally got to drain oil or jack up car so oil is away from where it's leaking at and really clean sump before repairing .Can get sumps cheap enough from motor factors , E- bay .

Thanks Whittingehame. I was reading up on this, apparantly British Leyland cars used to fit special anti corrosion sumps back in the 70's... ie they all leaked oil so badly there was no way the rust could get in!
