Ford Focus car juddering when feathering throttle

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.8tdci sport
Model Year: 2006
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
when driving along feathering the throttle. e.g 40mph 4th gear and gently accelerate the car judders quite vilently as if no fuel is in the engine. it does this in all gears and revs.

if you drive it fast and accelarate harder with the throttle past the point which makes it judder the car is fine. it seems to be a certain throttle position it does it on?

any ideas please as ford want £100 just to plug it in and i dont have any engine faults.

thanks a lot

I have this problem on my car and I was told by the rac man that it was the ignition coil.
