2000 Ford Focus loud clanging from engine

Hi
my car ticks over ok but when you try to add revs it sucks lots of air and the car shudders with lots of clanging coming from the engine
please help

going on your description it sounds like you have an air leak on the intake side,there was a fault with the inlet manifolds cracking on this engine so check visually,also check all vacuum pipes are fitted properly and not damaged,check idle control valve and inlet manifold gaskets are not leaking and that all air ducting from air filter box to throttle housing is fitted properly,stick your head under bonnet and rev it up to try and pinpoint noise
