Ford Focus light dimming

hi wen i drive my ford focus on the motar way and i put my headlights on the light seem to dim and go bright again and then dim. they keep doing that. its as doe the lights are loosing power. i am thinking it could be a faulty alternator but just thought id ask to see if it could be any other fault or would i be right with my prediction?? any comments would be greatly appreciated

As you suggested ,first thing I would test would be alternator output .

it could be alot of things, a bad earth, an old battery, a bad wire connection or corrotion. To check the alternater you need an amp and volt meter checker and place prongs on alternater ports
