Not an auto electrician but will try to help .There was problems with the instrument cluster on that car , different faults and featured on Watchdog . If you Google "ford focus instrument cluster " you will see .The other thought I had was possibly the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) fault .Would be best to get it checked out with Ford or a good auto electrician .The only other thing I could dig up was this ,whether it would help or not , i dont know .
Re: ford focus minor problem

Errrm...
Bear in mind I've never looked behind my glove box and am just copying and pasting advice from another forum, but
There's supposedly a timer module on the back of the focus fuse box. Is that what you found? The advice never said anything about looking for a fuse on the back of the fuse box.
If it stops working again then it might be best to investigate this comment on honestjohns web site
=============================
1.4 and 1.6 models can have a problem caused by spark plug interferance with their GEM (Generic Electronic Module). This controls instrument cluster, interior lights, rear heated screen timer, front wiper intermittent, central locking, airbag, reverse lamps, rear wiper, trip computer, etc. The cure is to realign the cylinder head temperature wiring and cable tie it to the engine.
Best I can do to help .
