Ford Focus missing part of spark plug

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.8 petrol
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Changed spark plugs on daughters Focus, when cleaning up found sliver of ceramic to be missing from side of one of the used spark plugs, this missing piece about length of plug and quarter of the round shape, unable to find this missing piece, concerned that it has went down spark plug hole into chamber if it has went down there would it cause serious problems right away or is it possible to drive car without any ill effects, car has driven 150 miles since plugs changed(no problems)as car driving ok can I rest assured that piece of plug has not fallen into engine and relax.

Probably cracked plug ceramic when removing , quite common .If the plug socket you used had rubber retaining ring inside ,the broken piece would remain in socket till plug removed , normally well away from plug well and then drop out . Hope that's what happened , fingers crossed .

thats what i am hoping for Whittingehame but if it has fallen into engine, would we know if it was there right away (engine damage) or can it sit below the spark plugs on top of the pistons for ever! without causing problems.
