Ford Focus abs light

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.6 Zetec
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The ABS warning light is coming on intermittently, sometimes it stays on for the full Journey sometimes it doesn't come on at all. I took it to an auto mechanic who used the diagnostic computer and nothing was showing as a problem because the light was off (intermittent fault). The brake fluid level is correct and the car was serviced 4,000 miles ago and no problems with performance and or braking. I am suspecting a loose connection or sticking relay.

these cars sometimes erase thre own faults if it does not see it everytime, have your garage check that one of the relucter rings on one of the front drive shafts has'nt come loose from corosion and made it split, other than that i have replaced sensors on these to.Also check all the brake lights are working.

Hi Bill,It is most certainly the instrument cluster circuit board that is at fault. I had the same prob. several weeks ago, (before "watchdog" hilighted it).Corrosion of the "tracks" on the board will cause faults and will NOT show on error codes. DIY is easy. Remove the cluster (5 screws),the connector plug (lever cam lock) and keeping the cluster upright (IMPORTANT),remove rear cover,(2 screws),front lens (unclip).Mark pos.of pointers prior to pulling them off,(they are tight!).Unclip board (keep upright!),and spray board(both sides) where contaminated with PCB & flux cleaner (MAPLINS). WD 40 is NOT recommended. wipe off excess and re-assemble. Time approx 2hrs. Cost under £5. Money saved £500!!! Good luck, ally Scally

Having had the same problem for most of the year with the abs and brake light flashing intermittently and an mot looming.
I thought id better get it sorted,so i followed scallyally advice and of to Maplins i went. I bought some PCB Cleaner PCB laquer and star bits.
Having taken the cover to reveal the PCB i could see the problem "Corrosion on the tracks"
I didnt remove the board from the intruments and just treated the one side i could see, probably a hassle lining all the needles up again.
Just spay the cleaner on and brush with a toothbrush till the corrosion dissapears, wait till its dry and a quick spray with the Laquer to seal.

Cost: £15
Time: Less than an hour.
Saving: Loads of coin.
Did it work: You bet it did.

I've had this problem for about 3 months. I read this thread and gave it a try. A tin of PCB cleaner for £6 and a toothbrush and now a car back to normal. Ford wanted £300 for a new cluster fitted, Maplins wanted £6 for a tin of PCB cleaner. So happy I found this site, thanks to all

I have a 2004 focus 1.6 petrol. The ABS light comes on when you turn the ignition on, and then correctly as it should goes out, now when you go to start the engine as it turns over the ABS light should come on and as soon as the engine fires up the light should go out. This is not happening, the ABS light does not come on when the engine is turning over? There are no Fault codes..
Has anybody got any suggetions. Many thanks.
