Ford Focus indicator lights stay on when key removed

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.8 diesel
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When the ignition was switched off the other day the indicators all came on. They were not flashing but on permenantly. The only way to turn them off was to remove the fuse. After a short while the fuse was put back in and the problem had gone only to return once the ignition had been switched on and off a few times. Has anyone got any suggestions as to the cause and possible solution?

I know this is an old question but hopefully my answer will help others out. The fault is in the hazard warning switch. On some Focus models the switch incorporated the flasher relay. You can tell if this is the case as there wil be a metal heatsink on the back of the switch.

To get to the switch you need to remove the sterio ans undo the four screws holding the panel with the heating controls on. The lot comes out then. YOu don't, as one Ford dealer said, need to take the whole dash out!

Hope it helps
