Ford Focus loud knocking from roof area when i go over bumps.

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 2.0 Convertible
Model Year: 2010
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Loud knocking from roof area when i go over bumps. Car driving smoothly and convertible roof working fine, just sounds like something has come loose and bangs when going over humps/bumps in road, but nothing obvious on inspection of car. Had roof up and down and everything feels and looks secure. Sound is loud and feels heavy, but only when i go over a bump or hole in road.

Thank you for this - it hasnt solved the issue - after taking the roof panel off and then driving again the knocking sound appears to be coming from inside the passenger side rear panel where the seat belts are housed and the rear speakers are situated. Would be the rear door panel area if a 4 door car. I guess i will have to try and get the panel off to see what has come loose or dislodged. But i very much appreciate your response and its good to know anyway.

Sounds as if you are on the right track . Rattles are often hard to locate and can be deceptive in location when you are driving . That is why I often sit someone else in the car when going out on a test drive . Surprising the number of times they find / think it's coming from another area and often correct . Would be grateful if you could update the forum of your findings .
